MOMBASA CAMPUS STAFF GET COVID-19 REFRESHER TRAINING
Friday, 03rd December 2021
The Kenyatta University - Directorate of University Health Services (KU-DUHS) visited Mombasa Campus to inspect the implementation of the covid-19 protocols within its premises and conduct a covid-19 refresher training.
Dr. Gabriel Waari - Director accompanied by Mrs. Margaret Kungu - University Public Health Officer, Sr. Keziah Kironji – Nursing Officer, and Mrs. Violet Anzemo – Health Records Officer, represented the KU-DUHS team.
On Thursday, 02nd December 2021, the team inspected the campus lecture, office, and hostel blocks checking on the implementation of the covid-19 protocols. They confirmed protocol implementation within campus premises, gave recommendations for improvement, and offered to supply additional resources where-need-be to enhance the exercise.
On Friday, 03rd December 2021, the team facilitated a covid-19 refresher course for Mombasa campus staff to sensitize them on the emerging variant of concern -covid-19 omicron- its increased transmissibility, disease severity, and the possible vaccine efficacy reduction against the variant.
Mombasa campus staff were advised to continue observing covid-19 protocols, sensitize students/relatives on the emerging variant of concern and encourage them to go for the covid-19 vaccines.
Dr. Waari added that prevention of covid-19 through observation of protocols and vaccination is currently the most cost-effective way of managing the disease because the cost of hospitalization is out of reach for many a common citizen.
